The 2023 CX-50 has obtained the highest safety rating after several tests conducted by the IIHS

The IIHS awarded the 2023 CX-50 the highest safety rating, earning this SUV the 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award. The first Mazda vehicle designed to tackle unpaved and unpredictable roads, the CX -50 stands out for its remarkable performance and its ability to withstand shocks.

In order to earn this prestigious certification, the IIHS subjected the 2023 CX-50 to six different tests to rigorously evaluate all aspects of safety. Vehicles had to score high marks in crashworthiness ratings, including driver's side small overlap, front passenger's side small overlap, moderate overlap, roof and headrest strength, and original side. In addition, vehicles had to score advanced or superior for frontal crash prevention in a two-vehicle and a vehicle-to-pedestrian test. Finally, headlights of acceptable or superior level must be standard on all trims.

The 2023 CX-50 was able to meet all these requirements, in order to obtain the “Top Safety Pick+” certification. The SUV stood out thanks to its standard frontal collision prevention system, which obtained the highest score, and its adaptive LED headlights available on the three Turbo versions also earned a good score.

Even if those evaluations are not taken into account for obtaining the certification, the CX-50 obtained a good mark for its safety belt reminder system and a good mark+ for its child seat attachment system (LATCH).
